   Political structure

   The Republic of Tajikistan is a sovereign, democratic, legal, secular, unitary and multinational state. Tajikistan independently implements foreign and domestic policy, acknowledges the priority of generally recognized norms of international law and is a fully legitimate subject of the world community. State board has a presidential form according to the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan.

   State power in the republic is based on the principle of the separation legislative, executive, and judicial. Each of these authorities acts independently within the powers.

  President of the Republic of Tajikistan

   The president of the Republic of Tajikistan is the head of the state and executive authority (Government).

   The president is elected by the citizens of Tajikistan on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot for a period of 7 years. Every citizen aged 35-65 years, who can speak the state language and is a resident within the territory of Tajikistan not less than for the last 10 years, can be nominated for the position of the President of the Republic.

   Legislative Authority

   The Supreme representative and legislative body of the Republic of Tajikistan is Majlisi Oli - the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan. Majlisi Oli consists of two Majlis - Majlisi Milli and Majlisi Namoyandagon and is elected for five years. The Majlisi Namoyandagon is elected on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot, acting on a permanent and professional principle.

  Executive Authority

   The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is a body of state Executive power. The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan shall carry out its activity on the basis of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan, constitutional law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On Government of the Republic of Tajikistan", other laws, joint resolutions of the Majlisi Milli and Majlisi Namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, international legal acts recognized by the Republic of Tajikistan. The Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is the President.

   Juridical Authority

   Judicial power is carried out by Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, Supreme Economic Court, Military Court, as well as Courts of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous province, regional, city and district courts. Judicial power is independent, and protects the rights and freedoms of the individual, interests of the state, organizations and establishments, legality and justice. Organization and order of activity of courts is defined by the Constitutional law.

   The term of appointment of judges is for 10 years. The Chairman, Deputy Chairman and members of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court are elected by Majlisi Oli upon the recommendation of the President of RT, all other courts are appointed by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan upon the recommendation of the Minister of Justice. Judges are independent in their activities and subordinate only to the Constitution and the Law.
